Question: What yeast can i use and how does it rise without a fermenter?? (Posted by: Kris S on 2008-04-15 08:39:12) At school we use a fermenter to help it rise but i dont have one at home, and i was wondering what yeast i can use at home and how can it rise?? |

Posted by: madfigs on 2008-04-15, 08:57:49 It depends on what you are trying to do with it. As long as the yeast has something to eat (ie, sugars), it will be producing ethanol (alcohol) and carbon dioxide (which makes bread rise). When people make things like beer, they use fermenters so bacteria doesn't get into it, and so they can keep the alcohol in, as well as the co2. When you make bread, the co2 produced by the yeast will make the bread rise, and then the ethanol gets cooked off when you bake it. |
