Posted by: mdubinko on 2006-03-28, 22:15:08 Two important things for a fermenter: 1) It must allow carbon dioxide to escape. This is important--otherwise the container WILL explode. 2) It must not allow oxygen to enter. Less of a safety issue, more of a I-don't-want-to-make-vinegar issue. Glass gallon cider jugs work well. You can use a baloon or a carefully partially-unscrewed cap. Your best bet, though, is to go to a local homebrew shop and pick up a stopper and plastic airlock. Should be less than a buck each, and well worth the hassle. |

Posted by: eternityprs on 2006-03-28, 13:07:09 Milk jug, put ingredients in and use a balloon as a cap. Balloon blows up as it ferments. when it goes down it is ready to drink. |
