Homebrew yeast: stir it into the brew or simply sprinkle over the top of the liquid in the fermenter?

Question: Homebrew yeast: stir it into the brew or simply sprinkle over the top of the liquid in the fermenter?

We've been stirring the yeast into the beer but I think that sprinkling the yeast over the top and letting it work its own way through the liquid might be the best way to go. Any thoughts?

No, you should not stir it, for fear that any outside contaminant or bacteria should come into contact with the wort...I have always just sprinkled it on top and it has yielded great results! Relax, don't worry, have a homebrew!

The few times i made it i sprinkled it in a cup of beer first and after a few minutes i poured in in and one time i just sprinkled it in and both worked fine. but i think either way is fine

I have never stirred, just sprinkled over the top for both beer and wine.

I have been brewing for a couple of years and have not noticed any difference in taste or quality with either method.
